Unicorn Deer Born in Italy


In June 2008, young deer nicknamed "Unicorn" has attracted hundreds of curious visitors to a nature conservation in Tuscany, Italy.


Gilberto Tozzi, director of the Center of Natural Sciences in Prato, northwest of Florence said, "a one-year-old deer was born in captivity with a congenital genetic defect that gave him only one horn right in the middle of his head." Deer that had a normal twin with two horns on his head.

Immediately flooded the conservation community center to see the rare deer. In a few days there were more than 200 visitors who came to the area of 1 hectare.

"We received so many calls from people and many came to see the deer instantly. Sometimes deer fence boldly approached the visitors despite the fact that he is a shy deer," said Tozzi.

One-horned deer are rare, although categorized animals does not mean there before. but experts say that the deer with one horn right in the middle of the head is something never seen before. Tozzi said that this anomaly may have triggered the emergence of Unicorn legends of the past.

Unicorn is a legendary creature similar to a horse with one horn in the middle of the head with a healing power that appears in legend throughout the world, from ancient texts to Harry Potter fiction.
